Join us Earth Day weekend with our friends from Silvatica Designs, AW Vanworks, Fat Axxes, Village Farmacy, Smokeworx Street Cuisine & Finding Sparky for a day of forestry education, fundraising, axe throwing, van chilling, food trucks, live music, and craft beer on Saturday, April 23rd. We will be tapping/releasing "Of The Forest" West Coast IPA and will be donating $1 of every pint poured and $1 of every 4-pack sold to-go to the National Forest Foundation's tree planting program: https://www.nationalforests.org/50-million-trees-in-5-years

The National Forest Foundation's Tree Planting Program can plant a tree for $1, so help us plant 1000 trees on Saturday, April 23rd.

SILVATICA DESIGNS EVENTS 1PM to 6PM

• Did you know Sylvatica is a Latin word meaning “Of the Forest”? Jamie and Adam from Silvatica Designs (Salem, OH) will be set up Saturday afternoon on the patio (weather permitting) speaking on numerous topics related to sustainable forestry. Sustainable forestry balances the needs of the environment, wildlife, and communities while conserving our forests for generations to come. Topics include:

  • Harvesting White Oak is Whiskey Business

    • Did you know that all bourbon must be aged in new, charred white oak barrels? Did you also know that it can take 70-100 years for a white oak tree to mature? Join us in learning about the challenges of sustainably managing white oak to meet the demand of the booming bourbon industry.

  • Investing in Our Forests

    • Learn about local tools and resources to help support sustainable forests.

  • Tree I.D. Walk Around Firestone Park

    • Learn tricks to identify common tree species of northeast Ohio.

AW VANWORKS Noon to 8PM

• Come chill on the patio and hang out in a converted van! AW Vanworks is located in Greenford, Ohio, and specializes in converting cargo vans into high quality homes on wheels for van lifers or outdoor loving vacationers.

• A message from AW Vanworks team: Earth Day is important to us as a van conversion company because the whole reason behind these vans is the nomadic potential. Van lifers don’t want to stay inside when the sun is shining – we want to get out and experience this beautiful Earth. National Parks, rugged dirt roads through the forest, or remote sunny beaches are only a few of the possibilities. To learn more about what we do, come have a beer with us on Earth Day at Birdfish! We will have a recently converted van on display and will be available to answer any questions.

• Summon your inner lumberjack Earth Day weekend and throw some axes on the patio! Fat Axxes from Niles, Ohio is bringing their mobile axe throwing trailer to the patio.

Smokeworx Street Cuisine will be here with the BBQ. Village Farmacy will be popping up during our Earth Day celebration, showcasing spent grains and other other sustainable foods in a variety of unique pastries and comfort foods, demonstrating how tasty and eco-friendly plant based food can be.

A little background information on Silvatica and how this event came to be...

We met Jamie and Adam in the taproom during the last "Of The Forest" release where they told us their business name "Silvatica" actually means Of The Forest. (WE PLANNED AND SCHEDULED THIS EVENT 2 YEARS AGO) Since then it seemed like we needed to do something together and after finding more about their involvement with sustainable forest management and activism this collaboration seemed just right!

Jamie and Adam are former foresters and current owners of Silvatica Designs based in Salem, Ohio. They handcraft wooden jewelry from sustainably and locally-sourced materials that resonates with the conscientious consumer. This new endeavor provides a non-conventional platform to educate the public about sustainable forest management while creating jewelry which serves as a connection to nature and a physical representation of love for our forests.

Check out their bottle openers and jewelry in the Swag Shop made from barrel staves they use from whiskey, bourbon, and wine barrels we retire after using them several times to age beer.
