Power Up Porter

This past year of 2020 has taught us a lot. In ways, it has made us realize what is really important in life. We have met a lot of amazing people and made many friends over the past decade. Some of these connections started in the garage while home-brewing, others started as conversations across the bar. Now we get to share a beer and a story with you that started with music in the summer of 2015...

We had been bustin’ our butts working on our OG location, The Up Top and decided to take the weekend off. We headed up to see Willie Nelson and Old Crow Medicine Show play at Nelson’s Ledges Quarry Park. The weekend’s live music lineup was filled, but little did we know the best band we were going to see that Saturday played first, they were called Good Luck Elouise. We met Brent, Lindsay Mae, and Nate after their set and told them about our brewery we were trying to open and asked them if they would ever be interested in playing. We exchanged info and stayed in touch with progress of our buildout. They played just a couple months after we opened our doors and have played many times since, most times standing room only. These were some of the best original live music performances we have ever hosted. A magical time at our little brewery and tasting room on Main Street.

Since then, Brent & Lindsey Mae Miller of Good Luck Elouise have been working hard to start their own business, one they are passionate about called Miller’s Mushrooms. A mushroom farm based in Canton, Ohio cultivating Blue Oyster, Pearl Oyster, Italian Brown Oyster, Chestnut, Lion’s Mane, Pioppino, Black King, King Trumpets, Shiitakes, & Reishi Mushroom, many of which we used in a beer that we brewed together named Power Up Porter. A beer we’re stoked for you to try. We tapped the beer at Homestead Kitchen and Cocktails and our taproom. The beer was also made available in cans to-go from our taproom only. Miller’s Mushrooms are featured in Homestead’s Farm to Table Menu and also available at Lamppost Farms

Details from the Brew Crew:

We initially got our inspiration from this beer back in the garage homebrew days. We were brewing one Saturday and a friend of ours stopped by after foraging for Morel mushrooms.  Unfortunately, they did not have any morels, but instead brought out dried Sheepshead mushrooms. We smelled them and then knew instantly that we wanted to brew a light bodied earthy porter with them.  The initial reaction was that people thought we were crazy but it quickly became a sought after beer of ours. Since then, we have never changed the recipe, only the mushrooms that we brew it with. Our latest version was brewed with 8 different varieties of mushrooms: Blue Oyster, Pearl Oyster, Italian Brown Oster, Chestnut, Lion’s Mane, Pioppino, Black King, and King Trumpets. All mushrooms used in Power Up Porter were locally grown in Canton, Ohio by Millers Mushrooms.
